Great 'Gar Guide (5.0)

I've enjoyed cigars for several years and was curious to see if this book would prove interesting or useful. It turned out to be both.

There is some interesting history and information on how cigars are made. I never thought about it before, but a lot of hard work goes into making a fine cigar.

The part that was most useful to me was what to look for in a quality cigar and why these traits are important. I'd gotten to the point where most new cigars I tried didn't interest me, and I'd begun to stick to a select handful. Armed with the information Mr. Gage provides, I'm able to select new cigars that I'm more likely to enjoy.

Thanks for making an enjoyable pasttime more enjoyable!

This is an easy read and entertaining book full of information for the novice wanting to know ALL the BASICS about cigars. I never used to be a cigar smoker. At 54 years of age, I think its about time.

THE book on cigars! (5.0)

We cigar smokers think we know all about cigars. Not unless you read this book. Very professionally but also very "lightly" written. Recommended!

A little biased, but excellent starting point! (4.0)

Author is definitely well versed and knowledgeable in all areas. Gave a new/intermediate smoker tons of information and the confidence to go into a smoke shop, and have a convo with the clerk. After reading you do truly understand the ins and outs of cigars and the culture that goes with it. My only problem with the book is that the author gives his own opinions, which is fine, but comes off belittling at times. For example, I truly enjoy infused cigars. Coffee infused ones to be more specific, the author touches on infused cigars, but basically dismisses them. I would have much rather had more information on infusion and the like, rather than have my favorite cigars dashed. There are a few other examples of this including cutters and such, but it can be overlooked... All in all, great buy, and great info.
