An excellent tale of giving being a precondition for receiving (5.0)

This is a delightful tale of Christmas, where the act of giving means that you are receiving. On Christmas Eve, Thomas is a man in a hurry. When he pushes aside a beggar to enter a candle shop, he is also curt with the proprietor, calling him foolish and an old man. When the man sells him a candle for four coppers and says, "... you may find it costly", Thomas shouts at the man.
The trip home is one where he encounters poor people and "sees" them as his beloved relatives. He gives them all he has; yet when he gets home, his relatives are fine. This causes a major awakening so he leaves the comfort of his destination and goes back out to take care of another.
The lesson here is strong and clear, kindness begets kindness and sometimes the greatest level of receipt is when we give. It is an excellent book for young children during the Christmas season.

Did not think the book was worth the money I paid for it. It has 12 pages. If I had known that, I would'nt have purchased it.

I have many small books by Evans and enjoyed all. The Christmas Candle is no exception. It is a warm enjoyable story which can be appreciated by all ages. My reading group reads one each year during the holidays.

Great candles (5.0)

I love these candles. I knew what I was looking for, to go in the windows of our house - and I went through a lot of 'duds' before I found these. They look beautiful. I set them to auto and they come on in the evening and stay on until morning.

First off - I do keep in them in the windows year-round. This is probably the third year that I've had them going nonstop (a set of 8 in the front windows), and so far the only times I've replaced them is when my toddlers have grabbed them and they met their demise. My children enjoy hurling them at walls. (They know it's wrong too.. the last one they hid in a toy box, all smashed up.)

Secondly! The batteries. Get rechargable ones if you're going to use them long term. I found it terribly annoying to be running out and buying 16 batteries every month or so. When nearing about a month or slightly after, they're dimming and needing to be re-charged, I've found. Probably could go longer with UNrechargable batteries, but sticking batteries on a charger was more convenient and cost-effective for me.

And as far as the color - it is a light yellowish or golden, not white. From someone who tried a few of the other cheaper ones, I can tell you these ones are more durable and suited to be used long term. And they look GREAT from outside the house. Hope this helps.

I'm quite satisfied with this product. The batteries operated all thru the Xmas season and the lights stayed firmly on the window sills in spite of my venetian blinds. The sensors worked without a flaw.

Some reviewers were concerned about the yellowish light, but i was not. The lights could be a little brighter, but they are visible enough for passers-by.

These candles are very nice with the exception to color. If you are expecting a bright white glo like the tradtional corded window candles you won't find it here. Can look a little halloween-ish. LOVE the automatic light sensor feature. Customer service with the company is A+ too.

Great, but long term cost may be too high (4.0)

I think this is an excellent product and do not mind the orange glow (which looks more natural when set to flicker mode than constant on).

Good Tidings/Carlon customer service is excellent. After a few days the flicker option stopped working, but the candles still lit when turned to constant on. I called customer service and without any hassle they said my bulbs were going bad and that they would send out replacements for my 2 units that were affected. They do have a 2 year replacement warranty.

I'm disappointed that the bulbs are not replaceable because that will make these a more expensive option in the long-run since the full units will need to be replaced. And I couldn't find these in any local stores, so once Amazon stops selling them I'll need to replace all of them with a newer model. But for now I'm extremely pleased!

The special details are a pleasure to behold and there are pages for entries of special Christmas memories, activities, scriptures and photos etc. It is a lovely book to share with loved ones and pass down to children and grandchildren. Delightful!

Cute Idea, but... (3.0)

Looks sturdy enough to last for a few years at least, but I doubt it'll make it to 21 looking as pretty as it does now, if it makes it at all... That and it takes a long time to burn, we eventually just cut it down.

The 1-21 year birthday candle was just what I was looking for!.I had similar ones for my own children and knowing how special it made their birthdays, I wanted my grandchildren to have these candles, too! This candle arrived well-wrapped and in one piece. Thank you for that. If I ever need another candle like this, I will know where to look and recommend them to my friends.

I am so happy that I was able to find this candle on line. Have been searching in the stores for years to no avail. Our oldest daughter received one for her first birthday almost 50 years ago. I purchased many over the years to give as gifts, and then they became unavailable for some reason. Thanks to Amazon I was able to purchase one for our new grandson......the tradition continues. They are a lovely keepsake and one that will last 21 years.

We have collected all the Christmas CDs from Mannheim Steamroller and this one is as good as the rest. We are never disappointed with their music. We even got one of their DVDs and to watch them perform is awesome. It is even more pleasing because they started at the University of Nebraska which is my home state! My husband and I are definitely fans of Mannheim Steamroller.
